Q-Body Lab

WHO: members of the Whitman community who identify as queer and think they might be good at/enjoy this kind of play/study.

WHAT: intentional community/research lab for exploring/experimenting with queer embodiment through movement and performance-based art making. This is NOT a class! It’s a blurry coalition of bodies, actions, materials and texts in (mostly) non-hierarchical formation.

WHERE: Fouts Center for Visual Art (FCVA) lawn and other locations TBD.

WHEN : Fridays, noon-1pm

WHY: to metabolize and grow new culture, community, consciousness and capacity. And because creativity and experimentation often reveal the limits of our imagination; at other times they simply fuel it.

HOW TO BECOME INVOLVED: make a short video (less than 1 minute) relating why you’re interested and what you hope to bring to the adventure. Email a link to the video @ acuffm@whitman.edu

*one may NOT be enrolled in a class with me AND a member of Q-Body Lab during a given semester. These are separate enquiries.

A FEW MORE THINGS:

BASIC STRUCTURE: We will gather and chat and move and check-in with each other each week. We will attend to power, privilege, personal history, and aspiration. We don’t know what this is going to be and that’s the point. We will try to track things that seem to be working; some momentum might gather from this, in which case we might stage a public performance towards the end of the semester/year. We also might not. It’s all ok.
